Crosswalk or Cross-stagger?

This very entertaining session was presented by Kate Kluttz from the State Library of North Carolina.

The complete title of her presentation was "Crosswalk or Cross-stagger?: Using OCLC's "Attach Digital Content" Feature from Connexion to CONTENTdm".

I didn't take many notes in this session because I was caught up in the discussion! It was amazing to me how differently people use the same tools.

Kate talked about the trials that they have experienced with implementing a workflow for using Connexion Digital Import (CDI). They have had issues with how the crosswalk from MARC to Dublin Core has been working. They are finding that they need to go in and enhance the Dublin Core record in CONTENTdm to get it to meet the quality of record they want to present to their users.

Kate brought up some great issues with using CDI. One that is very important is the inability to replace records that have been created by the Library of Congress or other CONSER libraries. These are primarily serial records. All SLNC wants to do is add the 856 tag with the link to the item in CONTENTdm, but they can not replace these records.

There was a great deal of discussion that took place in this session because there were several CONTENTdm users there as well as Geri Ingram from OCLC.

It was an informative and lively session!
